Foot Guidance for Runners
Updated: Nov 9, 2022
If you are a runner, taking care of your feet should be a high priority. Unfortunately, it is mostly overlooked until the actual problem occurs and stops you from running. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort either during or after a run, it is your body telling you that there is something wrong. It is highly recommended to speak to an orthopaedic consultant if you do experience these symptoms to help diagnose the problem and prevent further implications.
It is highly likely that a gait analysis would be recommended by your orthopaedic consultant so that your current running pattern can be analysed, as well as discussing future running aspirations and any previous injuries that could be affecting the way you run now. This falls in the category of biomechanical assessments which involves complex evaluations of your feet, knees, and body positions during motion. Scientific data is then gathered and forms the basis for rehabilitation which may include exercise plans, prescriptions, or other non-surgical treatments.
At MSK Doctors we are able to perform these evaluations using our cutting-edge technology involving the use of 3D motion analysis to analyse gait, force plates to identify weight bearing asymmetries and even our ankle rehabilitation robot to assist with your rehabilitation stage.
