Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common disorder that can affect anyone, especially those who type on computers or do repetitive motions with their hands. It's characterized by numbness, tingling, and pain in the hand and wrist. The cause of this discomfort is the compression of the median nerve as it passes through a narrow passageway in the wrist called the carpal tunnel. To relieve this pressure, carpal tunnel release surgery may be recommended to remove part of the ligament that covers the carpal tunnel and reduce pressure on the median nerve. Carpal tunnel release surgery is covered by the NHS on MSK Doctors CSS under local anaesthetic on an outpatient basis.

Recovery time after this procedure varies from person to person but most people can return to normal activities within 7-10 days.
